Jecel Tandoc Censoro or Jecel is an advocate, change-maker, public servant, social entrepreneur, teacher, and artist. She currently works in the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability East Asia and the Pacific as the Network and Communications Manager and Program Manager of Checkmyschool.
Jecel is one the youngest members of the Clinton Global Initiative and recognized by Microsoft as a Global Hero in Education for her work on Checkmyschool (CMS). CMS is a participatory monitoring project which aims to improve education services in public schools by providing access to information, a platform for sending feedback, and network that will help solve school issues. Started in the Philippines last 2011, CMS is now being adapted in Mongolia, Cambodia, and Indonesia.
True to her goal of serving the public, Jecel is currently part of the Philippines’ National Youth Parliament Executive Board and chairs the Committee on Education. She is one of the co-founders of the Junior Philippine Society of Public Administrators (JPSPA).
In 2010, Jecel became the Philippine’s 3rd Global Change Maker who participated in the Latin America Youth Summit. She is also active in other international organizations such as the Global Youth for Anti-Corruption Network (GYAC), Global Transparency Education Network, and Rotaract Club of Manila. She is an active leader in Victory Christian Fellowship. She is also one of the grantees of United Nation MDG and Youth Dividend, who worked on the Reproductive Health project.
Having her passion for education and the poor, she co-established Paraiso Junks. A social enterprise in the form of a junk cooperative which aims to professionalize and provide regular income to garbage gatherers. The social enterprise is currently running in Payatas, Quezon City.
Jecel is a presidential scholar and honor graduate from the University of the Philippines earning a degree in Psychology, minor in Linguistics. She also studied Business and Economics in Korea University as an Asian Future Leader Scholar where she was awarded the Excellence award. She just finished taking her graduate course on Public Management at the University of the Philippines.
A Rotary Youth Leadership awardee, Young Writer’s Awardee and a sports enthusiast, Jecel offers all her achievements to God and her country.
